critique_and_review
Critique or Review content. Users with the appropriate role (Reviewers) can review the content of another user.
You can create a list of pre-defined points (Review Items) to provide a critique/review structure for reviewers to provide feedback and/or notes on the content. These Review Items are configurable by the Administrator. If the Administrator has permitted it, the Reviewer can also add their own 'ad hoc' Review Items.
Features
Useful for peer reviews, critiquing, or any case where draft or published content requires feedback.
Use cases: Editorial workflow where supervisors/editors/subeditors need to review, proofread, and/or fact-check work before it is published. Educational content that needs to be reviewed before it can be used. Estate Agent’s property descriptions that need to be reviewed by senior staff. Any other case where others need to review, critique, or otherwise offer feedback on a piece of content.
Post-Installation
Settings Form
Go to
Home >> Administration >> Configuration >> Content authoring >> Critique and Review Module Settings
Select for which Content Types reviews are enabled (this can be overridden in the block settings).
If you are going to place the Review Form block in the Sidebar then select “Add css from this module”, unless you intend to theme the display yourself.
Check: “Allow users to add more Review Items” if you want Reviewers to be able to create extra Review Item sections, or delete existing Review Items. They will be able to build their review on an ad hoc basis, as best fits their review. If you wish to restrict Reviewers to a specific structure, leave the box unchecked. Reviewers will only be able to use the Review Items you set up below.
Use the Review Help text box to provide instructions to Reviewers.
Add Review Items
Add one or more Review Items. You can set some default Review Items here. eg. Intro, Body, Conclusion.
If you have checked the “allow users to add more Review Items” checkbox, users can add their own Review Items on the fly as they write a review. The less items you set up, the more freedom users have to customise their review.
However, if you leave it unchecked, only Review Items you set up here will be available to Reviewers.
Even if Reviewers are able to add their own Review Items, it can be useful to provide some default items to guide reviewers where to start, provide a standard form of review, or even determine exactly which Review Items are available. By default, all review items can be deleted by the reviewer.
In all cases, you might use the first block to have reviewers say hello and maybe outline their approach. So an “Intro” Review Item should be included.
e.g. Intro to review/reviewer/form review will take - if this title doesn't suit your needs then change it to what makes sense for your users.
Each review item created by Admin at configuration, should have instructions or guidelines for completion.
Add the review form to the content
Go to
Home >> Administration >> Structure >> Block layout
Add the block to the desired region, the Sidebar would be a good choice so the Critique and Review block can appear to the right of the content to be reviewed. If you place the block in the Sidebar, ensure you have checked the “Add css from this module” checkbox in the module configuration, or provided custom CSS. Content Below can also be a good choice if you need a wider review form.
Click the Place Block button and choose the "Critique and Review Block".
Restrict by role
In Configure Block you can restrict which roles can see the block, a good choice might be to give only the "Content Editor" the rights to see
this block or, even better, create a Reviewer role eg. Sub-editor.
Restrict by page type
This block only makes sense on the node body page, so restrict its appearance
elsewhere. Go to the Pages tab and select "Show for the listed pages" and
enter /node/* in the Pages text area.
Restrict by content type
This block may only make sense for certain content types, so you can restrict its appearance to those content types. Go to Content Type and select the desired types, for example, Article. NB. the Content Types selected here override those selected in the Module configuration form.
Test the form
To test everything is working as intended: create two users, eg. Editor1 and Editor2. To log in as two different users at the same time use two different browsers: let's say log in as Editor1 on Chrome and Editor2 on Firefox.
Create an Article
Create an Article (or any content type that you have pre-configured to allow reviews) as Editor1.
Go to the other browser, where you are logged as Editor2. Go to the node body of the article you created as Editor 1. The Review Form will display in the block region where you have placed it in the steps above. For example, if you placed the block in the "Content Below" region, you will see the review form just below the main content text of the article created by Editor1.
Type your review and save the draft using the “Save Draft” button (or use the enter key when in item title). The review so far is saved in draft and an option to create a new review item appears. “Saved in draft” means it is saved for the Reviewer (Editor2), but the content author (Editor1) can’t see it yet. The Reviewer can add their own Review Item by filling out the item title and the text box below. They can repeat to create several review items to help structure their review, or separate it out into logical sections for their user case.
To remove a Review Item: check the “Delete this review Item” checkbox, the review item will be deleted on the next “save” or “save draft”. Saving a draft does not make the review available to the content author. To do this, the review needs to be finalised. When the review is complete, check the “Finalise review” box, and the “Save” button becomes available. NB. Once a review is finalised it cannot be edited. It is automatically made available to the content author.
View the reviews as the node creator
Go to the browser where you are logged as the node creator (author of the content). A notification will display to inform you that reviews are available for this piece of content. Go into the Edit tab, you will see reviews from editor1. To see how it works with more reviews, create a few more users, editor 3, editor 4 etc. Log in as each respectively and review the node.
When the content author (Editor1 in our example above) edits and updates the reviewed node, a new revision is created with no reviews as the reviews apply per node revision. The old reviews are still available, simply go to the previous revision of the node and edit it, the reviews for that revision appear there.
The new revision of a node can be reviewed again, with new review comments.
