This module allows you to customize the HTML content of Drupal's update notification emails. It provides a default template, replacement tokens, and the ability to test emails without altering Drupal's core update functionality.

Update Email Customizer provides a simple way to customize Drupal's update notification emails without replacing Drupal's Update module or mail delivery system.

Drupal can notify administrators when updates are available for Drupal core, contributed modules, and themes. Update Email Customizer keeps that existing workflow while allowing administrators to control the HTML content and presentation of those notifications.

The module includes a ready-to-use default template, configurable replacement tokens, security update awareness, and test email functionality from both the administration interface and Drush.

Features

  • Customizable HTML template for Drupal update notification emails.
  • Ready-to-use default email template.
  • Supports Drupal core and contributed project update notifications.
  • Detects security update notifications and adjusts the email content accordingly.
  • Replacement tokens for site name, update information, affected components, links, and button text.
  • Send test emails directly from the Update settings administration page.
  • Send test emails using Drush.
  • Works with Drupal's Mail API and does not require a specific mail transport.
  • Compatible with mail backends such as SMTP, Symfony Mailer, Microsoft Graph integrations, and other Drupal Mail API implementations.
  • Supports multilingual notification content through Drupal's language system.
  • No external service or API is required by the module itself.

Available tokens

Custom email templates can use the following replacement tokens:

  • [site:name]
  • [update:title]
  • [update:subtitle]
  • [update:description]
  • [update:notice-title]
  • [update:notice-text]
  • [update:affected-components]
  • [update:url]
  • [update:button-text]

Post-Installation

After enabling the module, go to Administration > Reports > Available updates > Settings.

The Update settings page will contain an Update email template section with a starter HTML template that can be customized using the available tokens.

A test email can be sent from the same page without changing Drupal's normal update notification workflow.

Test notifications can also be sent with Drush:

drush update-email-customizer:test [email protected]

Additional Requirements

No external libraries, APIs, or third-party services are required by Update Email Customizer.

The Drupal core Update module is required.

Email delivery is handled through Drupal's Mail API. Sites may use their existing mail backend or transport according to their own configuration.

No additional modules are required.

Update Email Customizer uses Drupal's Mail API and does not provide its own mail transport. Sites can use any compatible mail delivery solution already configured for Drupal.
