The Stale Content Warning module helps you maintain editorial transparency by automatically notifying readers when they are viewing older content. Inspired by the "age warning" banners used by major news outlets (e.g. The Guardian), this module ensures that site visitors are aware of the context and potential obsolescence of time-sensitive information.

Features

  • Per-Content Type Control: Enable or disable warnings for specific node types (e.g. enable for News and Articles, but disable for Basic Pages).
  • Customisable Timeframes: Set unique expiration thresholds for each content type (e.g. 6 months for Breaking News, 2 years for Whitepapers).
  • Dynamic Messaging: Customise the banner text per content type to suit your site’s tone and audience.
  • Non-Intrusive Integration: The warning is displayed as a themeable banner at the top of the content view.

Configuration

  • Navigate to the Stale Content Warning settings page at "/admin/config/content/stale-warning".
  • Select the date type you wish to evaluate against, and the content types you wish to show messaging on.
  • Enter the "Threshold" (in months) and your "Content warning" message.
  • Add the "Stale Content Warning Block" to the region you wish the message to appear in.
