The official Meilisearch backend for Search API, maintained by Meilisearch. It gives your site fast, typo-tolerant search with Meilisearch Cloud or a self-hosted instance, and works with Views and Facets.

Features

  • Full-text search that tolerates typos and matches as you type
  • Keyword, hybrid and semantic search (with an embedder configured in Meilisearch)
  • Works with Views and every Search API condition, including language and datasource filters
  • Facets through Facets: limits, minimum counts, missing values and OR facets
  • Highlighted, cropped excerpts in search results
  • Location search through Search API Location
  • Click analytics on Meilisearch Cloud (included submodule)
  • Index prefixes, so several sites or environments share one Meilisearch instance

Use it when the database search is too slow or too strict, or when you want relevant results without running Solr or Elasticsearch.

Post-Installation

  1. Go to Configuration → Search and metadata → Search API → Add server, pick the Meilisearch backend, and enter your Meilisearch URL and API key. The server page shows whether the connection works.
  2. Add an index on that server, choose the content and fields to index, and click Start indexing now.
  3. Build a view on the index with a Fulltext search filter.

Synonyms, stop words, ranking rules and embedders are managed in Meilisearch itself: in the Meilisearch Cloud dashboard, or through its API.

Additional Requirements

Similar projects

Search API Meilisearch is a community module for the same purpose. This module is a separate, official implementation maintained by Meilisearch. Both can be installed side by side; to switch, move your indexes to a server using this backend and re-index.
