Overview

Bring your media fields to life with a responsive, modern gallery experience.

Media Field Gallery is a lightweight yet powerful Drupal module that enables beautiful and interactive media previews within Views. Whether you're working with images, videos, audio files, or documents (like PDFs and Word files), this module transforms standard media fields into a sleek, user-friendly gallery—perfect for modern content-driven websites.

Drupal’s core media handling is powerful, but it lacks an intuitive, gallery-style display for multiple media types—Media Field Gallery fills that gap. It gives site builders and editors a simple, no-code way to create engaging media presentations directly from Views.

This module enhances the user experience and keeps your visitors engaged by offering instant previews without navigating away from the page.

Key Features

  • Supports multiple media types: Images, Videos, Audio, PDF, DOCX, and more
  • Displays only the first 4 media items in the view, with a "+X more" overlay for additional files
  • Clicking any media thumbnail opens a preview/lightbox to view the full media file
  • Instant inline previews for images, video, audio, and document files
  • Easy configuration through the Configuration page—no need to edit Views or write custom code

Prerequisites

Before using the Media Field Gallery module, ensure that your content type includes a Media reference field (Entity Reference → Media).

This module requires a properly configured media reference field to function as intended.
An example of such a field is shown in the screenshot below.

Post-Installation

  1. Navigate to the configuration page:
    /admin/config/media/mediafield-gallery
  2. Select the media field you want the gallery layout to be applied to.
  3. Specify the Views path(s) where the module should be active:
    • Enter the URL path(s) of the Views where you want this gallery to appear (e.g., /posts, /gallery).
    • Leave it blank to apply the gallery layout to all Views using the selected field.
  4. Clear the Drupal cache to ensure the gallery layout is applied correctly.
