LCARS-NG is a theme inspired by Michael Okuda's LCARS interface from Star Trek: The Next Generation: rounded elbows, coloured bars and buttons on a black screen. It works as front-end theme and as administration theme.
The theme is a rebuild of the Drupal 6 theme LCNG (2011) by the same author, with the same design on current techniques: Twig templates, CSS Grid and custom properties. There is no JavaScript and no build step; the CSS is served as it is in the repository.
Features
- LCARS frame on all pages: elbows at the top and the bottom, menu buttons on the left, the content in between.
- Login panel on the account pages (log in, register, reset password). Optionally on the front page for anonymous visitors (theme setting, off by default).
- Two-part screen on the front page for signed-in users and on user profiles: an upper panel with site name, logo and slogan, and a status line with date, time and the signed-in user.
- Red alert on the pages for 401, 403 and 404.
- Administration theme: styles for forms, tables, tabs, dialogs, the dashboard and Project Browser.
- Canvas components: four single-directory components (button, heading, text, panel) in the Canvas group "LCARS".
- Custom properties for colours and frame sizes in
css/lcars/tokens.css, to override in a sub-theme. - Default block placement (branding, menus, breadcrumb, messages, tabs, help, content), so a new installation starts with a complete layout.
Post-installation
Set LCARS-NG as default theme, and optionally as administration theme, under Appearance. The setting Login panel on the front page is under Appearance > Settings > LCARS-NG. To show the login panel instead of the "Access denied" page, set the default 403 page to /user/login under Configuration > System > Basic site settings.

Drupal core 11.3 or later. No contributed modules or libraries.
