hostily Captcha

No security coverage Under active development

hostily Captcha protects your Drupal forms from spam bots without puzzles, image grids or tracking. Visitors tick a box (or nothing at all in invisible mode) while their browser solves a small proof-of-work task in the background. The service runs on servers in Germany, sets no cookies and is GDPR-friendly. This module adds hostily Captcha as a challenge type to the CAPTCHA module, so you can attach it to any form CAPTCHA can protect.

Features

  • New challenge type "hostily Captcha" in the CAPTCHA form settings, next to Math and Image.
  • Works on contact forms, user registration, login, password reset, comments and custom forms.
  • Visible mode (checkbox) or invisible mode (solved on submit).
  • Widget language follows the page language (German/English) or can be fixed.
  • Configurable behaviour if the service is unreachable: let submissions through (default) or block them. Every incident is logged.
  • The secret key stays on the server (can also be set in settings.php). Anonymous page caching keeps working.
  • Optional content check: form text fields are sent to the service for spam scoring (passwords and technical fields are never sent).

Post-Installation

  1. Create a project at captcha.hostily.de and add your site's domain to the allowed domains.
  2. Enable the module (drush en hostily_captcha); CAPTCHA is enabled with it.
  3. Go to Configuration → People → CAPTCHA → hostily Captcha and enter site key and secret.
  4. Go to Configuration → People → CAPTCHA → Form settings and select "hostily Captcha" as challenge type for the forms you want to protect (or as default challenge).

Without site key and secret nothing is protected and nothing is blocked.

Additional Requirements

Similar projects

reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha, Friendly Captcha and Turnstile offer similar protection. hostily Captcha differs in that it is operated and hosted entirely in Germany, sets no cookies, needs no image puzzles, and offers a reCAPTCHA-compatible siteverify endpoint.
