Google PubSub Module

The Google PubSub module integrates Google Cloud Pub/Sub messaging services into your Drupal site, providing seamless communication between distributed applications. This module is ideal for sites needing scalable, asynchronous messaging systems, such as those involved in microservices architectures or requiring real-time event notifications.

Features

This module connects Drupal to Google Cloud Pub/Sub, enabling the creation, management, and deletion of Pub/Sub topics and subscriptions directly from the Drupal interface. It provides an easy-to-use administrative interface for configuring Pub/Sub settings and managing topics, enhancing Drupal's capabilities for handling asynchronous messaging.

  • Topic Management: Create, update, and delete Pub/Sub topics within Drupal.
  • Subscription Management: Manage subscriptions, ensuring messages are delivered to the appropriate services.
  • Message Publishing: Allows the publication of messages to specific topics.
  • Asynchronous Processing: Offload tasks to Pub/Sub for scalable, real-time processing.
  • Detailed Logs: Track and manage Pub/Sub activity with integrated logging.
  • Statistics and Monitoring: Retrieve detailed statistics for topics and subscriptions.

Use cases for this module include:

  • Integrating Drupal with microservices using Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
  • Implementing event-driven architectures where Drupal needs to communicate with other services in real-time.
  • Handling large volumes of asynchronous tasks or messages that require processing by distributed systems.

Post-Installation

After installing the module, follow these steps to configure and use it:

  1. Navigate to Configuration > Google > Google Cloud Credentials.
  2. Enter your Google Cloud Project ID and upload your service account credentials JSON file.
  3. Save the settings to initialize the connection to Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
  4. Go to Configuration > Google > Google PubSub Topics to manage your topics:
    • Create Topic: Use the "Add Topic" form to create a new Pub/Sub topic.
    • Update Topic: Select an existing topic and use the "Update Topic" form to make changes.
    • Delete Topic: Remove a topic using the "Delete Topic" confirmation form.
  5. To manage subscriptions, navigate into a specific topic:
    • Create Subscription: Create a subscription to a specific topic.

Additional Requirements

This module requires:

  • Google Cloud SDK: For interacting with Google Cloud Pub/Sub services.
  • Google Cloud Credentials: A Google Cloud project with Pub/Sub API enabled and appropriate credentials.

Similar Projects

There are few modules in the Drupal ecosystem that integrate directly with cloud-based Pub/Sub services. However, modules like RabbitMQ and AWS SQS offer similar message queue services, but they are tied to different platforms (RabbitMQ and AWS respectively). The Google PubSub module is unique in its direct integration with Google Cloud, offering specific features for users within the Google ecosystem.
