FlowDrop is a visual, code-free module for orchestrating workflows in Drupal. It allows you to create, manage, and track complex processes that integrate with your existing Drupal content and users, providing explicit data flow and a full audit trail for predictable automation.
Editor, engine and storage are all included. You don't need anything from flowdrop.io, npm, or a hosted service. flowdrop.io covers the standalone editor for non-Drupal apps.
Workflow Orchestration for Modern Drupal FlowDrop is the workflow orchestration module for Drupal. It gives you everything you need to create, manage, run, and track flows — and more capabilities are added as the orchestration story grows. Visual, code-free, and fully integrated with the entities, users, and content you already have.
Where simple event-driven automation hides data flow behind tokens, FlowDrop makes every connection explicit: typed ports, visible edges, traceable executions. The graph is the specification, the execution engine, and the audit trail in one.
As seen in the DrupalCon Rotterdam 2026 Driesnote
▶ Watch the 2-minute segment (53:50–56:00): a browser agent builds a FlowDrop workflow over WebMCP, nothing changes until you approve it, and then the workflow runs in the Playground.
🚀 Try FlowDrop in 5 minutes
The FlowDrop Drupal Demo is a ready-made Drupal 11 site with a guided learning path, from a simple echo workflow up to an agent that calls tools over MCP. All you need is DDEV. An AI API key is optional.
git clone https://github.com/d34dman/flowdrop-drupal-demo.git cd flowdrop-drupal-demo ddev start ddev install-demo
ddev install-demo prints a one-time login link. It opens a start page that walks you through every example workflow, with Try it and Open editor buttons. The workflows marked offline run without an API key.

Why FlowDrop?
- Predictable over autonomous: Pre-defined workflow graphs produce reproducible, inspectable results. Unlike black-box agents, you know exactly what will happen at each step.
- AI-ready, not AI-dependent: Integrate LLMs (OpenAI, Mistral, and others) as steps within controlled workflows. AI is a tool in your pipeline, not an unsupervised decision-maker.
- Full audit trail: Every workflow execution creates persistent records: pipeline status, job inputs/outputs, session messages, and human approvals. Query and inspect execution history at any time.
- Drupal-native: Built on Drupal's entity system, plugin architecture, and configuration management. Works with your existing content, users, and infrastructure.
Key Features
- Visual Workflow Editor: Drag-and-drop graph editor (inspired by tools like n8n and Langflow) with typed ports, colour-coded data types and visible edges. Every connection is explicit, so the graph is the specification.
- 65+ Built-in Nodes: Data transformation and dataframes, control flow and gateways, entity queries and saves, HTTP requests, text and markdown processing, AI prompting and tool calling, and more.
- Workflows Are Configuration: Workflows are standard Drupal config entities, so they export to YAML, version in git, and deploy across dev, stage and prod with
drush cex/cim. - Three Execution Modes:
- Synchronous (in-request),
- Asynchronous (queue-based background), and,
- StateGraph, which gives you checkpointed, resumable execution for chat, loops and long-running flows.
- Execution Tracking: Every run produces a pipeline record with one job per node: what ran, what data went in, what came out, how long it took, what failed. Real-time monitoring and per-node inspection in the admin UI.
- Human-in-the-Loop: Pause workflows for confirmations, choices, forms or free-text input, with a complete record of who approved what and when.
- Agent Foundations: Sessions, scoped memory and tool-calling nodes give workflows the state and context that conversational agents need.
- Event-Driven Triggers: Execute workflows automatically on entity changes, user events, cron schedules, or external invocation.
- Nested Workflows: Compose complex automation by calling workflows from within other workflows.
- Site-Builder Extensible: Node Types and Node Categories let you configure pre-set node variants and organise the editor palette without touching code.
- Developer Extensible: Create custom node processors, triggers and orchestrators as PHP plugins, with a documented BC policy for the public API.
- Secrets Kept Out of Config: With the Key module,
${{ secrets.NAME }}references resolve at runtime, so credentials never land in workflow config or job records.
Companion Modules
FlowDrop's node palette grows with the modules you already run. Each companion module brings its connectors onto the canvas automatically, with no glue code.
- FlowDrop AI Provider: Bridges FlowDrop to the AI and AI Agents modules, adding nodes for chat, embeddings, moderation, translation, speech, image and video operations. Every model from every configured AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, Ollama and the rest) becomes available to your workflows.
- FlowDrop Tool Provider: A two-way bridge to Drupal's Tool API. Every Tool API tool appears automatically as a FlowDrop node, and any FlowDrop workflow can be published back as a tool with a typed input and output contract, callable by ECA, Maestro, AI agents, or anything else that speaks Tool API.
- Orchestration: Exposes FlowDrop workflows to external automation platforms.
Requirements
- Drupal 11.2 or higher
- PHP 8.2 or higher

Who maintains FlowDrop
FlowDrop is built in public by four maintainers, each with a clear area of responsibility, so the project does not depend on any one person.
- Shibin Das (founder): the editor UI, the execution engine, and the workflow specification.
- David Galeano: integrations with Drupal AI and the rest of Drupal. He builds applications on FlowDrop and has the most production experience with it.
- Volkan Jacobsen: funding, promotion, and partners.
- Stephan Huber: reviews the engine, runtime, and specification, with a focus on enterprise application logic.
Enterprise support: Factorial GmbH provides enterprise support for FlowDrop in production.
