Exit This Page

Exit This Page provides the GOV.UK Design System "Exit this page" pattern for Drupal. Content editors can flag pages with a prominent banner that allows a user to leave the site quickly and discreetly, without leaving a trace in their browsing history.

Features

• A sticky banner with a one-click exit link, shown on flagged content only.
• A keyboard shortcut (pressing Shift three times within five seconds) that triggers the same exit, for keyboard users.
• Screen reader announcements of remaining shift presses and loading state.
• A full-screen overlay that blanks the page instantly on activation, before navigating away.
• The current history entry is replaced, so the browser "back" button doesn't return to the flagged page.
• A configurable exit URL — defaults to the BBC Weather homepage, an innocuous, commonly visited site.

Configuration

1. Set the exit URL at Configuration > Content > Exit This Page
   (/admin/config/content/exit-this-page).
2. On a node's edit form, enable "Enable 'Exit this page'" in the "Exit this page" sidebar group to show the banner on that
   content.
