This project provides a starter kit for developing custom Drupal CMS site templates. It offers a documented foundation and tools for developers and site builders to create tailored templates, with an emphasis on using Drupal's core features and optional additions.

This project is a starter kit for creating a Drupal CMS-based site template. The idea is to customize it into a fantastic site template using Drupal CMS's basic feature set, plus your own additions.

See the documentation to get started.

This starter kit is aimed mainly at developers and site builders who are comfortable at least looking at code, and working on the command line. Features include:

  • A clear tutorial with extensive inline documentation -- almost every line of code is explained
  • Basic test coverage and GitLab CI configuration for quality assurance
  • Default configuration for Tugboat, so you can provide a live preview of your site template with no effort
  • A complete set of foundational Drupal CMS recipes, for a strong starting point
  • Easy integration with Project Browser, so you can suggest recommended add-ons to your site template's end users

But here's a fun fact: you don't need to write any code to create a site template. You can build a Drupal site in the UI, exactly the way you normally would, and export it as a recipe using the drush site:export command provided by the Drupal CMS Helper module (which, despite the name, can be installed on any Drupal site, not just Drupal CMS).
