Composer Deploy integrates with the Drupal update system to provide version information for modules and themes installed via Composer. This helps bridge the gap where Composer packages may not inherently contain version data in the same way as traditional Drupal packages.
The project is very similar to Git deploy but for Composer.
Normally drupal.org inserts version information when a project is packaged. Packages installed via Composer do not contain this information in some cases.
