This module resolves a keyboard shortcut conflict in CKEditor 5 for macOS users with French Canadian keyboards, allowing them to type the right square bracket character instead of opening the accessibility help popup. Administrators can enable or disable this override through a configuration setting.

Fixes the CKEditor 5 Alt/Option + 0 shortcut conflict on macOS French Canadian keyboards by allowing administrators to disable the accessibility help popup, restoring the ability to type the right square bracket ( ] ) character.

Features

This module provides a simple but essential fix for macOS users working with CKEditor 5 on French Canadian keyboard layouts.

When typing Option + 0 ( Alt + 0 on Windows ) in CKEditor 5, the editor normally opens the Accessibility Help popup.

On macOS systems configured with a French Canadian keyboard, that key combination is also used to type a right square bracket ( ] ) — causing a frustrating conflict.

By enabling this module, administrators can:

  • Restore normal typing behaviour for the right bracket key on macOS.
  • Toggle the feature on or off at any time through the configuration page.

This module is lightweight, easy to install, and does not alter any other CKEditor 5 functionality.

Typical use cases:

  • Content authors and editors using macOS with French Canadian keyboard layout.
  • Multilingual sites or editorial teams encountering CKEditor shortcut conflicts.
  • Administrators who want consistent typing behaviour across platforms.

Post-Installation

After enabling the module:

  1. Go to Admin → Configuration → Content authoring → CKEditor 5 Shortcut Override, or directly visit /admin/config/content/ckeditor5-shortcut-override.
  2. Check or uncheck the option to enable the Alt/Option + 0 override.

When enabled, CKEditor’s Accessibility Help popup will no longer appear when pressing Alt/Option + 0 — allowing users to type the intended character instead.

No cache rebuild or text format modification is required.

Additional Requirements

  • Drupal core with the CKEditor 5 module enabled (included by default in Drupal 10+).
  • No external libraries or additional dependencies are required.

Similar projects

While there are various modules extending or customizing CKEditor 5, this one is specifically focused on keyboard shortcut conflict resolution for macOS users.

It does not modify CKEditor toolbars, buttons, or configuration management.
