Chatroom

Chatroom lets site administrators provide real-time chat rooms where users can talk with each other. The 2.x series modernizes the module for Drupal 11 and 12 compatibility targets.

Chatrooms and messages are Drupal entities. Rooms have configurable viewing and posting access, and can be managed through Drupal’s entity features. Site administrators can optionally enable a public room directory, account-based membership, invitations, and join requests that require moderator approval.

Chatroom stores messages in Drupal and enforces access through Drupal. Polling provides message delivery without an external service. Node.js and Drupal Live Update integrations are optional.

Optional moderation

The Chatroom Moderation submodule adds room-scoped message reporting and review tools for authorized moderators.

Usage

• Install and enable Chatroom.
• Create and configure a chatroom.
• Set who can view and post messages using the available permissions and room settings.
• Optionally enable Chatroom Moderation or configure a supported delivery integration.
• Visit the room to start chatting.

Chatroom 2.0.0-alpha1 is a pre-release for testing and feedback. Drupal 11 has local test evidence; Drupal 12 still needs a full runtime and CI compatibility matrix. See the project documentation and roadmap before using this version on a production site.
