Canvas Content Editor

Canvas Content Editor lets editors build an entity's content from Drupal Canvas components, right in the regular edit form. It is aimed at news sites and blogs: reporters write in a fast block editor while the content is stored as a Canvas component tree.

Features

• Blocks: each shows its type and a summary. A "+" component chooser is grouped by Canvas folders and also offers Canvas Patterns. Typing "/" in an empty text block adds a block from the keyboard.
• A ⋯ menu on every block: move, duplicate, insert above or below, and remove (with undo). Drag and drop also works.
• Form and Preview views: Preview renders through Canvas in the site's theme, and blocks are edited in place or in a side panel. A live preview can also run beside the form.
• Nested components through slots, following core's SDC slot metadata (expected, minItems, maxItems).
• Per content type: turn it on, choose the allowed components, and optionally keep Body as summary only.
• Canvas's own storage: Canvas renders the content, it is structured data over JSON:API, and it stays compatible with Canvas's editor.

Requirements

• Drupal 11.3 or later
• Drupal Canvas 1.12 or later

Getting started

1. Install with Composer: composer require drupal/canvas_content_editor
2. Edit a content type and open Canvas Content Editor in the vertical tabs.
3. Check Build content from components, then choose the allowed components.
4. Adjust the editor under Manage form display: default view, live preview, collapsed blocks, "/" shortcut, word count.

Note

This module uses some Canvas APIs that are still internal. Each release is tested against a specific Canvas version.
